With its culture and ancient history, Locry is one of the most important and active centers on Calabria&#8217;s Ionian Coast. Discover the important archeological sight of Locri Epizephiri. Then enjoy a lunch break and some free time before we continue our tour to Gerace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gerace, the so called &#8216;pearl of the Ionion Sea&#8217; is situated in the Province of Reggio Calabria and offers a historical centre with many monuments and sights from Norman times. Among the largest and most impressive buildings is the Gerace Cathedral, also known as the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta,which is an architectural legacy of national beauty and the largest cathedral in Calabria. The old established locals are telling that once upon a time, there existed 128 churches in Gerace. At the end of 17th century, 43 churches remained, but after the earthquake in 1783 they were reduced to 17.
