Das verlockend kristallklare und t\u00fcrkisfarbene Meer sieht man am besten von einer der vielen Piazzas im Zentrum. Atemberaubend ist der Blick auf das Wahrzeichen Tropeas, die Kirche \u201cS.Maria dell\u2019Isola\u201d (unten im Bild) besonders bei Sonnenuntergang.<\/p>\n<p>Bei einem abendlichen Spaziergang durch die gut erhaltene Altstadt k\u00f6nnte man sich leicht vorstellen, man sei in einer kleinen Version von Rom, mit ausgezeichneten Restaurants und Trattorien an jeder Ecke, die von italienischen Familien betrieben werden.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201cIl Corso\u201d:<\/strong> die Hauptstra\u00dfe, am Ende vom \u201ccorso\u201d haben Sie eine atemberaubende Aussicht aufs Meer und auf die Kirche auf der Insel<\/li>\n<li><strong>Die Kathedrale:<\/strong> normannischer Dom, Reproduktion der Madonna von Rum\u00e4nien<\/li>\n<li><strong>Die Kirche von \u201cS. Au\u00dferdem ist zu empfehlen das hausgemachte Tartufoeis zu verkosten. Zwar heute touristisch erschlossen, sind sie aber genauso wie damals nur \u00fcber einen steilen Weg zu erreichen. Der Ort befindet sich in der Region von Reggio Calabria und wird auch Perle des ionischen Meeres genannt. Die \u00e4ltesten Einwohner von Gerace sagen, dass einst 128 Kirchen existierten. Ende \u2018700 wurden 43 Kirchen gez\u00e4hlt, aber nach dem Erdbeben 1783 sind nur noch 17 Kirchen \u00fcbriggeblieben. Hier gibt es mehrere Einsiedeleien und Kl\u00f6ster; ber\u00fchmt ist auch die byzantinische Kirche\u00a0La Cattolica. Das Fischerviertel\u00a0Chianal\u00e8a\u00a0besteht aus einem dichten Netz von H\u00e4usern und Passagen, das sich am Ende zum Meer hin \u00f6ffnen. Weiter oben wacht das majest\u00e4tische\u00a0Castello Ruffo\u00a0(1255) \u00fcber das Dorf. In der Umgebung wachsen Zitrusfr\u00fcchte, Blumen f\u00fcr die Parfumindustrie und fast die H\u00e4lfte der weltweiten Produktion an\u00a0Bergamotten.
